The Floral Head Setting

If the hidden halo has felt like the only "elevated" choice for an engagement ring, there's a more romantic option worth looking into. The floral head setting trades the traditional gallery rail/hidden halo for petal prongs, and it has quietly become one of the most requested looks I've designed.

“When I show a couple a hidden halo and a floral head side by side, the floral head tends to win. It's not just prettier from the top; it changes how the whole ring carries the center stone, from the petals down to the band.”

Here's a closer look at why it's so easy to fall for.

Petals you can shape: tulip, lotus, and basket

Most of a floral head's character lives in its petals, and that's where the personalization begins. Keep it clean and architectural as a tulip, soften it into a lotus by nestling a smaller petal between the bigger petals, or let the petals cross for a fuller basket feel. If you prefer a little extra sparkle! Then the petals can be set with diamonds, too.

  • Tulip head: minimal, sculptural, timeless.
  • Lotus head: an added baby petal for a blooming, layered look.
  • Basket: crossed petals that read fuller and more dimensional.
  • Diamond petals: accents for couples who want more light.

Where the band meets the head

This is the detail I love the most. The band can run straight into the petals, or, my favorite, split into a split cathedral. This is where the cathedral divides and flows into two petals, opening a view to the smaller baby petal. It's the kind of detail you don't notice at a glance, but can't unsee once you do. It makes your ring look like it was designed with intention!

Built around your stone!

No two floral heads have to look alike. The setting adapts to round, oval, marquise, emerald, and other cuts, and it plays well with bezels, low profiles, and hidden accents. Whatever you're picturing, it can almost certainly be designed into a floral head, and you'll even see it as a 3D model before a single gram of gold is poured.
